Reuters said the Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed responsibility for strikes involving multiple ships in the area, including U.S. vessels and oil tankers. Jordanian authorities said most of the incoming missiles were intercepted and no casualties were reported.
The latest escalation comes amid continuing exchanges between Iran and the United States, including recent U.S. attacks on Iranian oil tankers. Regional tensions have also affected Saudi Arabia, where drone and missile attacks linked to Houthi forces caused injuries and damage to energy facilities.
The conflict is creating fresh pressure on one of the world’s most important shipping corridors. Reduced traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has added to concerns about oil supply and pushed crude prices higher.
