This past weekend, Memphis Wrestling fans mourned the loss of a local icon: “Superstar” Bill Dundee, who passed away at the age of 82 (his cause of death, though, undisclosed).
Originally born in Angus, Scotland and raised in Melbourne, Australia, Dundee joined the circus at the age of 16 as a trapeze artist before starting his wrestling career in Australia in 1962 (eventually earning the nickname “Superstar” when he arrived in the U.S. in 1974).
Dundee regularly teamed up with and fought against fellow Memphis Wrestling icon Jerry “The King” Lawler, with whom he would win the AWA World Tag Team Championship twice.
Dundee was diagnosed with dementia in 2023 and made a recent public appearance in Tupelo with Lawler, King Cobra, Jimmy Hart, and Shane Russell on August 21st to raise funds for St. Jude on behalf of Memphis Wrestling.
