To make the Mud Island Amphitheater compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Memphis City Council approved a grant of $150,000.
The last performance at the amphitheater, which opened in 1982 with the official opening of Mud Island, was almost ten years ago.
In an effort to get the venue in operation, work was being done on Thursday to bring it into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by painting handicap-accessible areas in front of the stage and welding new handrails.
Jerred Price, president of the Downtown Neighborhood Association of Memphis, stated that he has a list of several hundred volunteers prepared to assist in preparing this location for the pop-up event, which may take place in April 2027.
