The city of Bartlett recently honored one of their residents, 91 year old Dale “Grey Beard” Sanders, who became the oldest hiker to complete the Appalachian Trail, which runs 2,193 miles from Georgia to Maine.
Funny enough, Sanders was competing against himself, as he actually broke the above record he first set when he was 82 years old.
Sanders has since become somewhat of a worldwide celebrity as a lifelong adventurer, cataloging his achievements (and stumbles) along the way, including summiting Mt. Katahdin on August 31, 2026 to complete his most recent record-setting journey.
Bartlett Alderman Kevin Quinn congratulated Sanders by stating, “His incredible stamina and regular social-media updates are inspiring hikers of all ages and reminding us that getting older doesn’t necessarily mean giving up on the things that challenge and inspire us.”
