The board of MATA now consists of nine members after years of financial and leadership upheaval, including a purported $60 million deficit and concerns over hundreds of thousands of dollars in expenditures.
Even with a full board once again, MATA will not resume operations for right now.
While this new board starts planning for one of MATA’s most important decisions—who will run the transit system next—the trusteeship established last year will stay in place for the time being.
Five members of the board resigned last year when the city stopped MATA’s search for a permanent CEO and subsequently put the organization under trusteeship. The appointments bring the board back to nine members.
