The Bluff City would like to wish a very happy 80th birthday to the legendary Dave Brown, who recently was blessed with the distinction of today being officially known as Dave Brown Day, in honor of his life and decades-long broadcasting career.
Born in Trenton, TN in 1946, Dave Brown got his start in broadcasting as a DJ for WKBJ Radio in Milan, TN when he was a 15 year old sophomore in high school.
From these humble origins, in addition to hosting the popular Memphis Wrestling program from 1967 to 2002, Dave Brown would eventually join WMC-TV Action News 5 as its Chief Meteorologist in 1977, where he would stay on until retiring in 2015 after 38 years.
Dave Brown was recently present when another Memphis icon, Jerry “The King” Lawler, was honored with a street renamed in his honor, as the two were both influential in the local wrestling community.
Dave Brown himself has also been honored with several notable accolades, including being an Emmy Award-winning meteorologist and member of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Silver Circle.
