Early yesterday morning, more than 100 people were detained by ICE following an operation conducted at the El Corralón bar in the Berclair neighborhood.
While MPD was not involved in the planning or execution of the operation, officers were called more than two hours later to assist with crowd and traffic control (which fortunately resulted in no injuries or property damage on their watch).
The immigrant advocacy organization Vecindarios 901 claims that ICE agents were acting off of a search warrant related to the bar’s possible operation of gambling machines and alleged drug activity.
The resultant raid is the largest in the Bluff City’s history and has left many criticizing the detention of people Vecindarios 901 says were not involved in any criminal activity.
Updates will be forthcoming as the story develops.
