Inmates at the Poinsett County Detention Center in Arkansas are being transferred to other prisons due to extreme temperatures caused by a power outage.
According to Sheriff Kevin Molder, an overheated juntion box caused the outage on Wednesday, but backup cooling units and a backup generator were in operation.
However, other areas of the facility were hotter because of “extreme outdoor temperatures.” According to Molder, employees have been inspecting such areas every forty-five minutes.
They started transporting inmates to other detention facilities on Thursday afternoon out of extreme caution, and the process continued on Friday morning.
Molder stated that full power should be restored by late Friday afternoon while crews attempt to fix the outage.
