The inaugural meeting of the state’s oversight board over Memphis-Shelby County Schools was canceled.
The educational oversight board was set to convene at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
But earlier in the day, a court approved a temporary restraining order in the federal case filed by Shelby County over the state’s control of local schools.
The ruling protects the status quo, meaning that the Memphis-Shelby County School Board can continue making emergency purchases, paying contracts and keeping present leadership in place for now.
If the lawsuit proceeds, a federal court will have to determine whether such protections will continue.
