On Monday, Memphis Middle and High School for the Arts and Technology announced that the acquisition of the former Humes Middle School was officially completed.
Humes Middle, which had previously been a high school, closed in 2024.
In an estimated $73 million initiative, the company intends to convert the North Manassas Street building into a public contract school for grades 6–12. A combination of tax credits, private donations, and other funding sources will provide the funds.
They say MEMArtsTech will offer “rigorous academic instruction integrated with professional-level arts and technology training,” and will be the first freestanding arts and technology school in Memphis to function as a full-service community school.
