Unless Governor Bill Lee intervenes, Tennessee prisoner Tony Carruthers is set to be put to death on Thursday.
After being found guilty in a 1994 kidnapping and murder case in Memphis, Carruthers has been on death row for more than 30 years.
In 1996, Carruthers and his claimed accomplice, “James Montgomery,” were found guilty of abducting, torturing, and burying alive a mother, her son, and his friend.
Carruthers has maintained his innocence, and he is requesting an extension from Governor Bill Lee for more time on DNA testing that could clear his name.
Meanwhile, protestors say they plan to deliver a petition with more than 50,000 signatures on behalf of Carruthers urging the governor to halt the execution.
