According to Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris, the Shelby County government intends to sue the state of Tennessee after lawmakers approved a bill for the state to establish an oversight board for MSCS.
“We have always been in saddle with the school system,” said Harris. “This is one community, and we’re going to do whatever it takes to fight outsiders who wish us not well.”
The vote in the House was 73-19. In the State Senate, the result was 27-6. The governor’s desk will soon be expected to sign the bill.
This follows the signing of another bill by Governor Bill Lee last Tuesday that prohibits Tennessee school districts from suing the state over accountability measures using public funds.
