Following a special meeting on Tuesday night, the Memphis-Shelby County School Board approved Superintendent Roderick Richmond’s contract.
“What I want the public to know is that the district is in good hands,” said MSCS Superintendent Dr. Roderick Richmond. “I want to continue to encourage our teachers, our students, our administrators, and our parents. This is our school district, this is our community, and we should all love on it, we should all speak life into it. We don’t want to speak failure into our students; we have some great students. Let’s prepare for the TCAP, and let’s show not just the nation but this state, that right here in Memphis, Shelby County Schools, greatness grows right here.”
Just prior to the release of a forensic audit that some Republican lawmakers have described as “troubling,” Dr. Roderick Richmond was formally appointed after serving in the interim position for several months.
Republicans claim that the audit could be crucial in determining whether the district should be taken over by the state.
Richmond was appointed interim superintendent of Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) on January 21, 2025. He stepped into the role following the board’s decision to fire former superintendent Marie Feagins last year.
