After being arrested, two deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office were dismissed of their duties and are currently behind bars.
Israel Muhammad and Jhyunn Shaiquez Armstrong were booked into 201 Poplar on Sunday. Muhammad was arrested for aggravated assault, according to SCSO. The charges against Armstrong have not yet been made public.
Muhammad and Armstrong have been relieved of their duties without pay until an internal investigation is completed, according to the sheriff’s office.
This comes right after Muhammad received recognition for his bravery in saving two boys from an icy pond back in February.
