President Donald Trump was criticized by Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy after he visited Memphis on Monday to honor the Memphis Safe Task Force.
“Let’s not forget that crime of all categories was coming down dramatically, for two years, before the federal task force got here,” said Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy.
The response follows the President’s recognition of task force agents for their efforts to combat crime in Memphis.
Memphis Mayor Paul Young shared the same sentiment as the DA.
“We were at a 25% reduction before the task force started. And so, our goal is to make sure that we’re continuing to move the numbers in the right direction. The task force will leave, it could leave tomorrow, and we’re going to continue to do the work,” said Memphis Mayor Paul Young.
