Protesters expressed their disapproval of President Trump as he was getting ready to attend a roundtable on the Memphis Safe Task Force on Monday.
Rep. Steve Cohen gave a press conference on the task force roundtable at around ten this morning.
With the conflict in Iran and rising gas prices, Cohen said Trump had enough to worry about. The National Guard and ICE had to leave the city, he added, but the task force had been successful because of the efforts of some of the federal agencies directed to the city.
A No Trump, No ICE, No Unsafe Task Force Rally featuring Tennessee Representative Justin J. Pearson was also planned for 11 a.m.
Pearson said, “We knew from the outset that this authoritarian, political stunt would not benefit Memphis. This political stunt has violated the civil rights of residents, drained precious city and county resources, strained our criminal justice system, fostered more distrust in government and tarnished the reputation of our city.”
Trump is not welcome to Memphis, Mane! And he can take his unsafe task force with him when he leaves. We want poverty eradication and real investment in Memphis, not military occupation. pic.twitter.com/qCPMi63yhW
