Dr. Roderick Richmond was unanimously appointed as the permanent superintendent by the Memphis-Shelby County School Board on Wednesday night. The contract now has to be negotiated.
“I’m excited. I never would’ve dreamed that I would be blessed to lead the district that spawned me. I’m excited about the opportunity,” said Dr. Roderick Richmond.
Members of the board debated for almost an hour whether to hire a superintendent or conduct a thorough selection process.
Dr. Richmond was named interim superintendent a little over a year ago following the dismissal of Dr. Marie Feagins.
