All 95 counties in Tennessee have been placed under a state of emergency by Governor Bill Lee, who is urging citizens to get ready for the potential for a significant winter storm that could bring snow, ice, freezing rain, and persistently low temperatures throughout the state.
According to weather forecasts, a big winter storm is expected to move through the state as early as Friday night. There is a greater likelihood that the storm will have moderate to severe effects due to accumulating snow and freezing rain.
All Tennessee counties are under a Winter Storm Watch from Friday night until Sunday.
It is predicted that dangerously low temperatures will persist until the middle of next week.
According to the governor’s office, the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) is still collaborating with state, local, and regional partners to support preparedness efforts and resource needs.
State officials said the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) teams are currently pretreating roadways and have replenished salt supplies in all 95 counties.
