In Memphis Tigers fashion, number 18, USF Bulls got taken down at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. Homecoming, an 11am start and perfect fall football weather- this was a game for the ages. Likely Coach Silverfield’s most talked about signature win. Coach Ryan Silverfield gave it all to his team and their resilience. A 42 yard missed field goal and then a 73 yard sprint for the endzone by Sam Franklin deflated Tigers fans enthusiasm and a cloud of doom began to set in. But the Memphis Tigers didn’t share that same feeling. “One play at a time” said Ryan Silverfield. I told them at half, we’re going to take this one play at a time and that approach paid off big time.
USF stopped the game 9 times with player injuries. Fans began to question those “player down” game stoppers and USF head coach even encouraged fans throwing his arms up during the boos. No question that injuries are inevitable in a high speed football game and the Tigers were most definitely delivering hard and heavy licks. But Memphis isn’t the only game where injuries by USF have been in question. Miami media member uncovered what was called “clever cheating scheme by USF football”. According to Locked on Canes reporter Alex Donno, USF head coach uses codewords before extra points that signals players to fake injuries, which will allow USF to buy extra time for the Bull’s defense to get back on the field.
The injury stoppage occurred 9 times during the loss to Memphis. All 9 were Bulls players. The hurry up offense play style of the Bulls may lend itself to injuries, or maybe, just maybe is part of the plan. At least that’s what nearly 31,000 questioned at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium.
