If the Shelby County Clerk’s office fails to pay almost $40,000 in past-due rent by Friday, the City of Millington is threating to sue
However, County Clerk Wanda Halbert argues that she has no lease arrangement with the City of Millington, that her office does not owe any rent and does not plan to pay.
According to documents that WREG obtained, the county commission authorized a lease for office space in Millington with monthly rates of $1,600 in 2024 and $2,000 in 2025.
City officials maintain that the space’s rent hasn’t been paid since December 2023.
