This week, President Donald Trump and Governor Bill Lee will fully implement the Memphis Safe Task Force.
To assist local law enforcement in combating crime, agents from 13 federal agencies, including the Tennessee National Guard and 300 more state troopers, will deploy in Memphis.
In order to assist the Memphis Police Department and other local law enforcement, the National Guard will act as additional “eyes and ears.”
In an effort to be transparent Mayor Paul Young’s office created a website dedicated to informing the public on what to expect.
According to the website, guard personnel will be deputized by the US Marshals, will not wear masks, will not make arrests or issue warrants, and will be dressed in regular uniforms.
The number of employees anticipated to arrive is currently unknown.
More than 100 people took to the streets Saturday to say they don’t want the National Guard in Memphis during the Free 901 Protest.
