The Shelby County Commission voted to limit school board members to two consecutive terms effective 2026. The body delayed the vote that would put all 9 board positions on the ballot. Currently those positions are staggered. In committee on September 3rd, the commission will decide whether to put all nine school board seats on the 2026 ballot or the ballot on 2030 or continue to stagger.
The Shelby county commissioners debated whether or not to return to the original proposal to limit the terms to 2 and align all the school board seats with the 2026 election. Doing so, would give voters and parents of students in Shelby County the opportunity to vote out school board members who removed Superintendent Marie Feagins. With no recall of school board members, aligning all seats on the 2026 ballot would offer voters the ability to remove board members that parents believe haven’t listened to their whishes.
Amber Mills – “We can avoid this if the school board would resign today effect immediately.”
