The City of Memphis is being sued by the Memphis Fire Fighters Association for allegedly underdelivering a promise on a pay increase.
The city’s budget for this year originally called for a 5% wage rise for firefighters. However, Councilwoman Pearl Eva Walker’s compromise resulted in a 3% raise for all city workers.
According to union leaders, the mayor had already signed a contract agreeing to the 5% figure.
In the complaint, the city is sued for back compensation, interest, and legal fees.
