A South Memphis landmark is on the chopping block, as a demolition permit was filed last week to tear down the historic Metro Shopping Plaza at 410 E.H. Crump Blvd.
Originally opened in 1970, the 65,753 square-foot center was built to spur economic growth in the area but has since fallen into disrepair (with a fire in 2025 causing damage to the property and injuring a firefighter).
While it is unclear at this time what the future plans for this site are, the county is currently appraising the property for $1.2 million.
