Victory was claimed by Brent Taylor on Tuesday night for the 9th District U.S. House seat against Justin J. Pearson.
It was a closer race than expected, with Taylor leading by 2,500 votes when the precincts were reporting at 99%. That’s Taylor’s 49.6% of the vote to Pearson’s 48.5%.
Following his victory announcement, he said, “I’ve got the same Tennessee grit that Davy Crockett had and with your votes tonight, with victory, I’m going to Congress and we’re going to give the Democrats socialist hell.”
The battle was for the newly redrawn 9th District, previously held by longtime Rep. Steve Cohen.
This victory for Brent Taylor comes despite the late-October surprise of his sexting scandal.
