According to the Memphis Athletics Department, the appeal for Nemanja Popovich and his six-game withholding period for the first six games has been denied. He will not play until the Dayton game on November 29.
The university said in a statement: “While we are disappointed in the decision, we appreciate the work of our Memphis compliance staff, whose efforts helped secure two seasons of eligibility for Popovic.”
He committed to Penny Hardaway’s program in June 2026 as the 15th and final member of the 2026–27 roster. A native of Topola, Serbia, he has been playing in European professional leagues since 2019. He spent the 2025–26 season playing for King Szczecin in the Polish Basketball League (PLK), where he averaged 13.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.
In his two exhibition games in a Tiger uniform versus Mississippi State and Arkansas, he averaged 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.
