A secret getaway for NBA players in Memphis will soon be opening up to the public in December.
Nestled at 525 S Main St, Lou’s Lounge, a Roaring 20s speakeasy-styled tavern, will be opening its doors to the public Wednesdays through Fridays from 4:00PM to 11:00PM, Saturday from 10:00AM to 11:00PM, and Sundays from 10:00AM to 8:00PM.
Named after his wife’s nickname, “Mindy Lou,” founder Kevin Helms first conceived of the idea for the establishment after his work with former Grizzly, Ja Morant, with whom he traveled extensively across the nation and discovered areas in major cities where NBA players could unwind before or after games (an amenity Memphis had lacked at the time).
After purchasing the property on S Main, Helms and his friends would personally transform the dilapidated former pottery studio into a charming bar where NBA players began flocking to (and which now the public will have the chance to enjoy).
“We hope this can be a place that people want to come hang out before Grizzlies and (University of Memphis) Tigers games, concerts, you name it,” Helms said.
