The keepers of Elvis Presley’s music are suing Anthropic over possible copyright infringements, as a lawsuit filed in federal court last Friday alleged that the AI company used some of The King’s greatest hits to train its program Claude without the owners’ consent.
As stated in this lawsuit, “Through Claude, the last version of which was just released earlier in 2026, Anthropic
has unlawfully copied and prepared derivative works based upon the copyrighted lyrics in the Works without any license from or payment to The Elvis Plaintiffs for the use of the Elvis Plaintiffs’ copyrighted materials.”
Said Plaintiffs are demanding $41 million be paid to compensate for the 274 songs they claim were misused by Claude.
Interestingly, Claude technically has roots in the Bluff City, as Anthropic began leasing the Colossus 1 Supercomputer from xAI back in May.
Anthropic has disagreed with these allegations and intends to defend their case fully, according to a spokesperson from the company.
