Water and gas bills could be more expensive by next year, as a three-year rate increase was unanimously approved by the commissioners of Memphis, Light, Gas and Water on Wednesday.
The only thing left for it to be official is the approval of the Memphis City Council before the year ends.
As for the specific water increase details, which would start in 2027:
- 12% per year for residential customers
- 20% for commercial industrial customers
- 30% for data centers
Which would mean by the end of the three-year period, residential customers would be paying nearly 40% more.
For gas, the proposal is an increase of 11%, three years in a row.
