Following the tragic deaths of two Ole Miss students, and the fact that packaged kratom was found near them, two men have now been charged with possession of kratom and illegal substances at an Oxford, Mississippi store.
51-year-old Yahya Mosleh and 18-year-old Islam Mohamed were charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
As for the business owner of Puffs Vape, Amer Alowdi, he is currently on the run from law enforcement.
The Lafayette County Metro Narcotics Unit were tipped off about the illegal sale in the business on Thursday. During the search, they seized more than 500 units of kratom, among other drugs and paraphernalia.
“Our message is direct: if you choose to illegally sell these substances in our community, expect law enforcement to come looking for you. We will investigate. We will obtain warrants. We will seize illegal products, and we will hold those responsible accountable,” said Oxford Mayor Robyn Tannehill.
As a reminder, the deaths of the two students has not been confirmed to be a result of kratom.
