Yesterday, the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library cut the ribbon on a new music production room, which was funded by a donation from the estate of a late, local music producer who collaborated with such celebrities as Beyonce and Drake.
The “Tay Keith Music Lab” (named after the Memphis-born record producer who passed away in June) was built as a way for young people ages 13 to 18 to hone their own musical skills, while also honoring the legacy of a man whose own skills were given birth to within his beloved Bluff City.
Notable features of this Music Lab include a control booth and a dedicated area for drums, percussions, and vocals (with mics and instruments built in).
The Central Library is also working on a music production curriculum, partnering with Cloud 901’s Music Education Program.
