Ground was broken by the University Memphis on Monday for the Liza Wellford Fletcher Stadium that will be used for soccer and track & field.
It was held at the Billy J. Murphy Athletic Complex.
Funding was made available by the Liza’s Light University of Memphis Soccer and Track Stadium Fund following her tragic death. It was organized by Fletcher’s family and close friends in her honor.
The announcement to build a stadium in her honor was made two years ago on the same ground that was broken this week.
No official completion date has been provided by the university.
