Motor vehicle renewals were paused on Wednesday, at least only for in-person.
It’s being described as a temporary service change by the Shelby County Clerk’s Office in order to work through a backlog of dealer paperwork.
New Shelby Co. Clerk La Sonya Hall has been prioritizing getting the offices back on track. Reportedly, employees also worked on Saturday for a special session to knock out the remaining paperwork that needed to be finished. It’s all part of her motor vehicle service recovery initiative.
This also comes after Hall found 34 crates of unprocessed automobile dealer packets that include registrations, applications, and titles for customers still left waiting.
She also recently requested over $6 million to address those clerk’s office issues, which the Shelby County Commission also approved.
In-person vehicle renewals are expected to resume on Thursday.
