Twelve more busses will be added to MATA’s transportation fleet.
The move, according to city officials, is a big step in rebuilding the city’s reliable public transit system.
According to MATA, the additions were necessary because 70 of the busses in the existing rotation are older than a decade.
“For too long, MATA has been defined by the challenges of an aging fleet and years of deferred investment. Our riders and citizens of this great city deserve better, and today we’re giving them better,” said Rodrick Holmes, MATA Trustee and interim CEO.
The new buses are part of a $48 million investment from federal, state, and city funds.
The majority of the outdated cars will be replaced over the course of the next 12 months.
