Gov. Bill Lee announced a collaboration with Nashville International Airport to rename the airport in Dolly Parton’s honor three days after her death.
Lee says that when he discussed the concept with Parton’s team this week, they expressed gratitude and indicated that they would be willing to carry on with the discussion.
“I don’t know why they didn’t do it a long time ago,” Tricia Arnold told News 2. “They should have done it when she was alive to see it.”
Doug Kreulen, the CEO and president of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, is supporting the plan as well, referring to the airport as the “front door to Music City.”
At its meeting on September 17, the MNAA is anticipated to discuss the request and its existing naming policy. For now, it will remain as the Nashville International Airport.
