TENN NATIONAL GUARD | Gov’s Office Refutes Ex-Mayor’s Claim

Ex Shelby County Mayor, Lee Harris claimed on Friday that the Tennessee National Gaurd was leaving Memphis as part of the Memphis Safe Task Force. No task force involved agency confirmed validity to Lee Harris’ claim. A rotation of troops is expected as the one year anniversary approaches. If the pause of visible patrols is the reason for Harris’ claim that the guard is leaving, there has been no validity to that claim.

The Tennessee National Guard operates their deployment autonomously and seperate from the operation of the US Marshalls office, which is leading the Memphis Safe Task Force. Governor Bill Lee’s office released a statement –

“The Tennessee National Guard continues to support the Memphis Safe Task Force alongside federal, state, and local law enforcement partners. Gov. Lee remains in close communication with the Trump Administration about this strategic public safety mission to ensure the long-term flourishing of Memphis.

As of this morning, law enforcement has made 12,195 arrests, confiscated 2,074 illegal firearms, and located 186 missing children. Crime is down 55 percent in Shelby County, with the lowest monthly crime totals in over 25 years.”

Surveys have shown that a majority of Shelby County and Memphis residents support the Memphis Safe Task Force, including the Tennessee National Guard and their work to remove the criminal element from the community.
