Several sources have confirmed that judges of the General Sessions Court have voted to suspend Court Clerk Tami Sawyer.
This week, Sawyer was indicted on federal corruption charges.
Edward Stanton Jr., a former General Sessions Court Clerk, has been requested by the judges to fill in for her spot.
Sawyer allegedly embezzled $44,607.35 in public funds for her personal use between August 29, 2024, when she took office, through June 22, 2025, according to the prosecution. Most of it was used for food delivery, restaurants, alcohol, and other personal expenses.
She was freed on her own recognizance after entering a not guilty plea to all counts.
Sawyer may spend up to 20 years behind bars if found guilty of every charge.
