After authorities discovered 17 dogs and puppies living in substandard conditions at a Memphis Animal Services employee’s South Memphis home, the employee was charged with animal cruelty.
Isaiah Bethany was arrested after the dogs were found on Friday when MPD detectives were carrying out a drug search warrant.
MAS stated that the city was in the process of terminating Bethany and verified that he was an employee.
“The City of Memphis has zero tolerance for animal cruelty. The allegations involving one employee do not reflect the mission or values of Memphis Animal Services nor the employees who work every day to protect the animals and residents of our community,” said MAS.
When investigators arrived to the house, they reportedly discovered multiple dogs without access to food or water both inside and outdoors. Additionally, they discovered equipment related to dog fighting.
According to MAS, they have given law enforcement its full cooperation and will keep helping when needed.
