On Monday morning, Memphis Shelby County Schools launched a website to give updates and showcase developments around problems found in an initial forensic audit of the district.
This follows Superintendent Dr. Roderick Richmond’s announcement last Wednesday that the district would make available the audit’s summary report, which was made public last week.
“The new webpage serves as a centralized resource for stakeholders to track the district’s response efforts, including actions taken to strengthen operational practices and enhance fiscal accountability. MSCS is committed to ensuring transparency and keeping the community informed every step of the way,” the school district released in a statement.
Over the past few days, the district has been examining the results, he adds, and his team will provide a summary outlining their progress.
According to the preliminary findings, auditors found around 200 deficiencies in the district between July 2021 and June 2024.
These included $1.7 million in transactions that auditors said did not adhere to district policy, as well as $1.1 million in waste and abuse relating to contracts.
