Following the No Kings protest on Saturday, four Memphis Police officers were relieved of their duties as a result of an internal investigation, according to an announcement on Tuesday by the MPD.
Police used pepper spray and made arrests at the demonstration.
In a statement, Mayor Paul Young said, “We respect our residents’ right to peacefully assemble, and I hate that this incident occurred at the end of Saturday’s event. We also recognize that our officers’ jobs are inherently difficult, and we owe them a full review of the interactions occurring that day. We are currently reviewing, and pending the outcome of an internal investigation, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.”
Reuben Burch, Adam Nelson, and David Rahaim were charged of obstructing a highway, resisting arrest, and engaging in disorderly conduct.
