Plans for dozens of gas turbines at the xAI facility in Southaven were approved by Mississippi state officials on Tuesday.
In Southaven, xAI intends to construct 41 gas turbines.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the Southern Environmental Law Center have issued a joint statement criticizing the state of disregarding public concerns and violating its own policies.
“We are outraged that, despite the community’s clear demand to move the Election Day hearing, MDEQ chose to bulldoze through a decision that silenced the very residents most harmed by it,” said Abre’ Conner, Director of Environmental and Climate Justice at the NAACP.
