Carlisle Corporation representatives informed the City Council on Tuesday that Memphis’ aging convention center hotel will undergo a makeover as it transitions from a Sheraton to a Marriott.
Carlisle is elevating the hotel to the standards of Marriott, a more prestigious brand.
Until then, it has been temporarily renamed the Memphis Riverline Hotel and is affiliated with the Marriott brand.
Almost all of the interior furniture will be replaced, and the ballroom and conference areas will be extended.
By 2029, Carlisle officials intend to have the renovations finished.
Last year, the city agreed to purchase the hotel for $22 million and issue an additional $30 million in debt to buy the 600-room hotel attached to the Renasant Convention Center. That deal closed in November.
