The school board approved a consolidation plan Tuesday night, resulting in the closure of four Memphis-Shelby County schools this summer and the transfer of one other.
The board voted 6-2 to close Frayser Corning Elementary, and there was a 5 – 3 vote for the closure of Ida B. Wells Academy, which was met with pushback.
Georgian Hills Elementary, Chickasaw Middle, Frayser Corning Elementary, and Ida B. Wells Academy will all close as a result of the Memphis-Shelby County School Board’s planned school consolidation, and Millington Municipal Schools will be the new location for Lucy Elementary.
On June 30, the consolidation plan will go into effect.
