At his court hearing on Wednesday, Jackson Hopper, the man accused of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend Ellie Young in Shelby Farms before leading police on a multi-county pursuit, turned down a 40-year plea agreement.
Hopper will consequently face a life sentence without the possibility of parole when he is tried on July 13.
He could have accepted the deal in exchange for a change of plea Wednesday.
Hopper, who was 27 at the time, was charged with first-degree murder back in 2024. He entered a not guilty plea.
Young was a medical student at the UT Health Science Center in Memphis.
