Following his plea agreement on tax evasion charges this week, Edmund Ford Jr. formally resigned from the Shelby County Commission.
The commission officially acknowledged the departure on Wednesday and scheduled the appointment of a new District 9 commissioner.
On March 9, the commission will select a new commissioner for District 9.
Applications must be submitted by February 20.
This comes after Ford Jr. entered a guilty plea on Monday to five charges of tax evasion pertaining to donations he made to charitable organizations while serving as an elected official.
On June 12, he will be sentenced. He is barred from holding public office in Tennessee and faces a maximum sentence of five years in jail.
