Shelby County Commissioner Edmund Ford Jr. pled guilty Monday to five counts connected to tax evasion.
After entering a guilty plea, Ford Jr. is anticipated to resign from his position on the county commission, according to his lawyer Mike Scholl. He will never be able to run for elected office again.
He will also be sentenced on June 12.
In February 2025, Ford Jr. was placed under federal detention and charged with six charges of attempted tax evasion and bribes and kickbacks involving government funding.
The 17-page indictment claims that Ford Jr. is accused of using his official role to win grant monies for three unknown non-profits and then “corruptly” collecting cash contributions from those same three groups.
