Tonight, the Memphis-Shelby County School (MSCS) Board will discuss a donation of almost $6 million from the Musk Foundation.
Repairs at Whitney, Westside, and Hawkins Mill Elementary Schools would be covered by the second grant in six months. This entails upgrading Whitney’s HVAC system and the roofs at Hawkins Mill and Westside, which, if the board accepts the donation, will also receive a new floor.
Painting and installing new intercoms are two further enhancements. Along with the repairs, the donation would provide almost $300,000 for a program that rewards good conduct and attendance as well as support services for homeless students.
All three elementary schools that stand to benefit from the donation would be welcoming new students next year under the district’s consolidation plan.
