According to Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy, a new suspect has been detained in Oklahoma and the wrong individual was imprisoned for a murder that occurred in Memphis about 20 years ago.
According to Steve Mulroy, his office was making amends for the 2007 beating death of Danny Harris.
In 2010, Andrew Hayes was found guilty of first-degree murder and aggravated robbery and given a life sentence. In the same case, a woman named Tammy Vance entered a guilty plea and is currently serving a life term.
Mulroy stated that new evidence surfaced some 15 years later, and attorneys have since submitted a petition to overturn Hayes’ sentence.
Additionally, Mulroy said the investigation led them to another suspect, a woman in Oklahoma who is Vance’s daughter, who he says facilitated the murder.
Charges have been filed against her, and she has been placed under arrest, pending extradition to Shelby County.
