Two weeks after a contentious meeting, the Memphis City Council decided on Tuesday night to approve a 2% raise for the Memphis Fire Department.
The current year’s budget is amended by an 8-3 vote with two members abstaining to allocate $1.7 million for a 2% raise for firefighters.
Earlier this month, a two percent salary increase for Memphis firefighters was rejected by council members.
That ruling came after the Memphis Fire Fighters Association’s July lawsuit against the city for violation of contract after the council chose a 3% raise for all employees rather than the 5% pay increase for firemen that was agreed upon.
