On Wednesday, Shelby County Commissioners are scheduled to discuss forcing County Clerk Wanda Halbert to provide important financial records.
According to the commissioners, those records are required in order to conduct an annual audit.
The County Commission claims that the documents are long overdue because they are only valid until the end of June.
The commissioners will discuss a resolution on Wednesday that would force Halbert to provide the material. The Clerk’s Office’s total revenue for the fiscal year is displayed in those documents.
Due to late and incomplete revenue reports, the Tennessee state comptroller dispatched an audit team to Halbert’s offices in 2024. This prompted a county-led effort to remove Halbert from her position as clerk.
